Contractions are youre best friend for college essays because word count is a struggle. Everyone uses them so your essay if anything youd seem more roboticless genuine if you didnt use them at all. Like someone else said, aos want to hear your voice and writing style so unless you dont use contractions normally you should use them as they come naturally.

Are contractions okay to use in the common app essay? ( bear in mind there is a word count which is why im using contractions).

can you use contractions in a college essay? These essays are less formal in nature than the typical academic essays you wrote in english class. Because they are supposed to be more casual and familiar, its often fine to bend some of the rules of the english language. For example, its ok to use contractions (such as im instead of i am).

College application essays should use correct grammar and punctuation, except where there is a specific and appropriate use of ungrammatical contractions. For example, if a character in an essay speaks ungrammatically, you can use that form.

the key to getting into the right college for you is taking each step of the application process in stride, and one of those steps is completing the common app and the common app essay. In this post, youll learn what the common application essay is, how to write one (including a free checklist to help you with the process), example essays, and much more.

do not craft it directly in the common application text box (you could lose your work)! If you use word or google docs, you can use their word count and, most importantly, the spell check feature. The common app now allows you to upload google docs directly from google drive.

Before anyone goes into a stress-induced coma, its beneficial to keep the end product in mind. You want something that captures your emotions and bottles your thoughts into an aladdin mantle lamp to hand to the admissions officer, and your writing is the strongest way to land in the heart of your readers.

Org will launch for the coming admissions season on august 1st. In the meanwhile, the common application essay prompts are available so writing can begin. Students will need to choose one of the five prompts and write up to a 650 word essay.
